009 // Video (Action for Goldenrod)

[From the looks of things, Joker is somehow stuck in a tree. Also from the look of things, he fell in it.]

Well, that was a bit of a failure, far as things go.

So, any folks wanna suggest somethin' of the flyin' variety? Me and Torch gave it a try but, well, she's a bit too fond a goin' fast and doesn't care for the gloomy weather.

[Action]
[Anyone actually in Goldenrod and passing through the local park... Well, you can probably spot Joker still stuck in the tree. Every now and then he gives a bit of a wiggle, shifts to the one arm, looks down... and then apparently decides to stay stuck. The Charizard flapping about and giving dismissive snorts doesn't seem impressed.]

[Could you look any less uncool, trainer?]

[Her Ampharos motions to the air, for some reason. Saionji eyes her for a moment, but shrugs.]

I guess some people just aren't aerially inclined. Can't you tell your Pokémon to help you down?

[Can't you???]

[Torch gives a very dismissive snort at that.]

She's embarrassed about me. But Ace is gettin' Angel, so they'll... probably be here soon.

[Probably.]

[Yeah, probably. Saionji just looks up, before an amused expression falls on her face.

Torch will probably notice the Swellow that's flying really enthusiastically towards them. Wait no DON'T CRASH INTO THE TREE

TORCH DO SOMETHING]

[For a minute, Torch really looks like she's going to flatout do nothing. Joker is the hugest embarrassment right now, he deserves a bird to the face. ]

[But after a moment, the large Charizard seems to give a sigh and circles around the tree. A tried and true Scary Face takes over her expression, wings flaring out menacingly.]

[Joker has just about no idea what's going on, so the sound of a distressed Swellow just makes him perk up and try to move.]

What was- GAH! [And of course his efforts have him nearly falling down onto the branch below him with a flail.]

[Torch just covers her face with her hands. So much embarrassment.]

[SAIONJI JUST SET OFF LAUGHING AGAIN SO SORRY JOKER

Her Ampharos is looking very worried, though. She'll catch you!!! Try not to fall, though!!!!!]

For once, I'm glad Tsubame has such terrible aim! ['Tsubame' apparently being the squawking Swellow who is now unceremoniously falling to the ground in fright. And getting her beak stuck in the soil. Why this, why why why]

At this point, you should just fall down. Try not to land on your face, though I guess I won't disagree if you insist on it.

[Everything is suffering for Saionji's team, it looks like.]

Nah, Angel should be comin' soon enough.

I think.

[Fortunately he's right as, just a moment later, there's the sound of a Glaceon yipping. Ace comes running up, Angel riding his back. She takes one look at the situation and sighs. It is so hard being a little Mime Jr. So hard. She hops off and starts making 'shoo' motions with her hands. You move it, missy.]

[It really is.

Saionji pouts a bit, but moves aside a lot more easily than you would think. Have fun, Angel.]

[With that done, Angel turns to her poor stuck trainer. With her hands, she raises them up to make a little square frame for her to look through. Promptly, the air starts to hum with psychic energy. Some presses against one side of branches, and then the other side...]

[That sure is an "invisible" psychic box (that's not so invisible) surrounding Joker.]

[Angel starts to take a step back as she pulls Joker out from his predicament, soon enough setting him on the ground. As the psychic energy disappears, Joker sits up properly and makes a jazz hand.]

Ta daaaa!

[Huh. Neat trick. Saionji's trying to police her thoughts, because she really doesn't like the whole 'psychic Pokémon can read minds' thing. That's why she's never getting one. And Angel just happens to be a Mime Jr., so...]

That would've been more impressive, if you weren't stuck up there and first. Oh, plus the yell of fear. [Her Swellow finally gets its beak out of the soil and flies towards the tree- huh??? There's no human here?????

Her Ampharos just sighs. Neat trick, though, Angel.] There's someone going around attacking people in this area, you know! You should be more careful.

[unfortunately that's not said out of concern, lmao]

[Fortunately for Saionji, Angel doesn't know how to read minds. Maybe this would have changed if she'd let herself evolve but ha ha no way in hell. Instead, she's just an extremely talented empath and thus gives a smug smirk at all the discomfort comming from Saionji's direction.]

[Joker doesn't pay it much mind, just gets up and tips his head politely to the Ampharos before speaking to Saionji.]

There is, is there? They gut anyone and steal their innards yet? That'd sure make this feel like home.

[She doesn't react too much to his statement. Organ-stealing happens all the time, right?] No, but they do hold people under water and toss them around. They're really the vilest of scum!

Which I guess isn't too far from my home, as well. [Not that it's a good thing. She stares slightly at Angel- why is she smirking what... get out of her head...]

Your home is... some time in the past, right?

[Definitely.]

Pretty sure ya can get more vile than that. [Not that he knows from experience or anything.]

Yeah, and in England. Apparently before my circus came ta town, there was some Ripper fella causin' all sorts a trouble. I wasn't around ta hear if they caught him or not.

Of course. It's just an expression, Mr. Stooge.

[In any case- oh, Ripper. His name is famous enough for Saionji to know who he's talking about, and she laughs for a moment.] Good luck with that, because he'll never be caught. At least he only murders prostitutes, though, so unless you happen to be one, there's probably not much to worry about concerning him.

You never really know what's on a killer's mind, though. Some could say they're not even human.

[Joker's mouth gives a funny little twitch.]

Me, I'd say they're scarier 'cuz they're human.

Can someone really be called 'human' after they steep so low?

[She doesn't miss that, Joker. Well, not completely. He's always pretty expressive, so she shrugs it off.]

Wouldn't sayin' they're not just 'cuz they ain't up ta our standards be an excuse, 'tho?

Besides, everyone's capable a that when ya get down ta it. Maybe not so gruesome in the particulars, but the basics.

It's not just our standards. It's the standards for every other civilized person on this Earth. If this even is Earth.

Besides, that's obviously wrong. Some people just aren't. [And that's why Saionji's still selectively idealistic, or delusional, in a sense.]

I've met some awfully civilized folks and, t'be honest, didn't find them too much different than any others. Just used more expensive words to make excuses.

[The last sentence just gets Saionji a kind of funny smile.]

[That will actually elicit something of a smirk from her, because she knows what those people are like.

Oh, when I meant civilized, I meant people well-adjusted enough to use their skills and talents for the better of society. Not morons and commoners who just happen to be born with a silver spoon in their mouth.

Eh? So don't you yerself fall inta that category?

[Look at that shit eating grin.]

[She knows exactly what you mean, and gives Joker a glare to match that grin.]

I fall in the former category, of course! Nothing like my mother, who was only born into a high position with no talent to back it up, or the greedy underlings of split branches that had neither.

If ya say so. I obviously don't know a lick about that.

[Before things potentially turn sour, she turns away.] Well, I wish I got a few pictures of you stuck in the tree, but there's no use crying over spilled milk. [Not anymore.]

Next time it happens, I'll be sure ta let ya know in time.

Speaking to you is getting boring. Since you're no longer entertaining me, I'll take my leave now. ['No longer entertaining me' means 'you're no longer being stuck in a tree'.]
